Russian Pawn is Done

After an unfortunate delay I have finally finished Russian Pawn. I am excited to go live, but I am going away for the weekend and I think I will publish it on the second of July. So I hope every one is going to get this first installment of my new series. 

Sloane is a sexy professional thief who has been hired by some of the richest and most powerful men in the world. She helps them complete collections they legally can't own. Precious artifacts, royal jewels and any other treasure that may be hard obtain. Its just a game to them, but it has made her some very powerful enemies.

The most powerful of them all is her estranged husband and head of the Russian mob. Sergei isn't used to being stolen from or rejected. Sloane has done both. Will she be able to escape his clutches? Will the man he hired to capture her let her go or turn her over?

It seems bleak, but Sloane can be very persuasive and she will use any trick of the trade to get away. (pun totally intended)

If you like an erotic story that will not only turn you on, but also has a storyline and characters that will entertain you as well, then Russian Pawn is for you. 

It gets intense, dirty and rough and Sloane gives as good as she gets.

Therapy for the Multitasker

As I was putting away my 12th load of laundry (no that isn't exaggeration for effect), I started thinking about all the other things I needed to do. Like weed my garden, clean my kitchen, make supper, take care of my sick son ( he just has a sore throat), write my blog, check on my facebook page, tweet about my book, work on my next book, water my garden, try to get more followers and make a list of everything else I have to do so I don't forget.
Now I know I am not the only person out there who has these things to do and maybe even more. I am writing about this, because I am wondering when you spread yourself thin can you do any of these well? Do you just muddle through and hope for the best? Do you become uber type A superwoman who has every moment of life scheduled down to bathroom breaks? (shudders in horror) Do you just jump from one project to the next hoping something gets done?
I do a little of all three.
Hoping for the best can never hurt. Some days that is all you have. Big fat hope that tomorrow will not be quite the shit storm today is. This may come in the form of selling more books then you have in a while, your kids helping with the housework, your hubby making supper or even an extra retweet you weren't expecting.

Scheduling is not my forte. If I set a schedule and then don't get everything done, then I get stressed and work until I either can't because of exhaustion or until someone tells me to take a chill pill and relax for a second. So I do a loose kind of schedule where I work until 10am on my writing and tweeting and blogging. Then I work outside in the garden until lunch. Afternoon is the same as the morning. Write for an hour then work outside. After supper I spend with the kids and then I write some more. So that is me scheduling and jumping everyday.

You must do whatever fits into your life. Remember it is also okay to schedule a time for nothing. That is sometimes the hardest thing to do when you always feel like you are behind. Your family needs your time as well. Mine has been super supportive, but I still feel the guilt when I am inside and my husband is outside playing with the kids.

So if I have to answer the question am I doing any of these things to the best of my ability, then the honest answer would be no. I am trying my best and this period of transition will end and maybe things will get easier. It will right? The first year we owned the farm I was having a panic attack over not being able to do it. By the next season my husband was across the country for 3 months and not only did I do it, but I did it with no help and kids to take care of by myself. So this year I added a book in the mix. Maybe next year I will wonder why I was so stressed. Of course next year I won't release a book in the spring. (see I can also learn from my mistakes).


 I feel like I was just in a therapists office and my 60 minutes is up. So I will toddle off feeling a little better from unloading. Deep breathe....ahhhh.

New Cover For Blood and Loss

Rewrites, Strawberries and Missed Deadlines

Blood and Loss is doing well, but if you get the chance you need to take a look for yourself and dive into the world of vampires, werewolves, witches and the fae. I have finally solved the problem of how to start the second book. I have started book two ten different ways and wasn't satisfied with any of them. So on my drive into the city to get my hair done and an hour to kill I solved it. Won't say anything because it would be a major spoiler, but when you read it, just know that the first chapter was not an easy one. I love when you finally click with a scene and you know you made the right decision.

I will have to postpone my release date for Russian Pawn. I hate missing a deadline, but I can't release it if it isn't ready. I really like this book and there is a section I can't get right. Plus I also have a hobby farm and it is our busy season and maybe a book release was a little too ambitious. Strawberries won't wait on the vine for me to rewrite a chapter.

I found myself with some "precious me time". I opted to read a book over watching TV alone. So I searched amazon.com for a new book to download on my PC kindle. I poured myself a glass of wine and escaped in Cassandra's Myles world for a few hours. I don't want to give away the plot but these are some of the things you should know about the book . It takes place in Canada, beautiful Nova Scotia, Vancouver and Alberta are mentioned in the book. The story includes witches, vampires and more .... the book gets better with every chapter and leaves you wanting more at the end. Oh and how could I forget, it is actually funny, the author could have you wanting to cry one minute and laughing out loud the next. I am eagerly awaiting for Electa Graham to release the next book in the Casandra Myles Witch Series.

True Blood

Meet the Characters

Lucius is a sexy vampire. He is tall and broad. Unlike most vampires his muscles aren't long and lean, but thick and bulky. With his closely cropped hair and piercing blue eyes he looks like the drill sergeant from hell. He scares the shit out of Cassandra, until he is the one who is responsible to keep her safe and everything is about to change.

Lucius is just one character who may keep you up at night, but in a good way.

Quintus is a 2000 year old vampire. He would do anything for Cassandra. He is the one who helped her when she needed it most. Lucius had already made himself at home. He was lying in my bed wearing only his boxers. I only ever thought of him as scary, but right now he looked so sexy I had to close my mouth to prevent excess drool from escaping. His muscular chest begged for me to run my hands over it. I swallowed hard trying to come out of my hormone induced trance.

Working on another series has been good for the creative process. I enjoy going back and forth. Cassandra, the main character in Blood and Loss is such a complex character. She is strong because she allows herself to be vulnerable. She feels it all and keeps going, because as she says what is the alternative. Her struggle to always do the right thing and keep those she loves safe makes her road a hard one to walk.

Sloane is almost the polar opposite. She can take a punch like the toughest man and will use anything at her disposal to win. She owes no loyalty to anyone except herself. The thief leads a dangerous life and having feelings for someone would make her weak. Her deepest connection to anyone is to the man who has been paid to capture her. He is her weakness. She hates him, but she has never wanted a man more in her whole life. They are each others chink in the armor. Sometimes the death of the other seems like the only solution.

Part one of my Sloane series is almost finished. I am editing it now. I am far from done part two of the Cassandra Myles series, but the first draft has been written. It just needs to be edited. The good thing about this time around is I have a lot of  volunteers for beta readers. So I hope you enjoy the tease and the update. I would love to hear from you.

A Change is as Good as a Rest

I am still working on the sequel to Blood and Loss, but sometimes my mind wanders and it wants a change of pace. So I have started a new series. It is erotica, but not your typical variety. The lead character is Sloane - " I had been Sloane for a very long time. I took the name from the first person I killed. Oh don’t worry she deserved it. She had a cool name though."
Sloane is a strong capable professional thief. She doesn't steal the family silverware and large screen TVs, but things the very rich and powerful covet, but can't buy. She deals with these rich powerful men and women, but because she is Sloane she plays by her own rules. This gets her in trouble. She  has a bounty on her head that makes her blush thinking at how high the figure is. Ian is the man who always comes closest to catching her, but they have a strong attraction to each other that Sloane uses to her advantage.

Sloane uses everything in her arsenal of tricks to get in, get out and remain alive. She is an expert in weapons, street fighting and seduction. All is fair with those she deals with and sometimes a sway of the hip or flick of the tongue is more powerful than her glock. In the first installment Russian Pawn, Sloane finds herself being hunted by the Russian mob, they have hired Ian to finally find her and bring her back to Sergei. He wants to punish her for leaving him. No one leaves Sergei. Will Sloane make it out alive and if so which weapon will she use.
Russian Pawn is due to be released on June 15th. Keep the date open.

Twilight...Best Books Ever or Worst Piece of Fiction Ever Written

 

I want to make it clear that I have never read the Twilight books. I try my best not to make judgments, when I don't have all the facts. I have watched some of the first two movies. I didn't like the movies. I thought they were terrible. I couldn't finish more than about 20 minutes of the first movie and watched most of the second movie. I didn't like the fact that they had created such a pathetic female character, especially since the movie seemed geared to teenage girls. The thought of a teenage girl becoming so despondent over a boy terrifies me as a mother of a girl. It wasn't just how she was acting, but it was supposed to be romantic. 

The other main problem I have is a vampire who is over 100 years old going to high school. I am 40 and the thought of going to high school is about as appealing as cleaning the toilets in the NY Subway system with a toothbrush. Plus as a mother of a future teenage girl if a guy in his 30's came after my daughter when she was 17 I would definitely have a sharpened stake in my hand. So a hundred would really push my buttons. 

So here is the thing what do you find so appealing about it. There must be something appealing about it, God knows it has sold enough copies. Explain to me why it is such a good series. On the flip side those in the haters camp let me know why you hate it so much. Tell me your beef. Are they similar to mine or do they go deeper.  No one seems to walk in the middle of the road on this one.

Writing Volume Two

I was working on the sequel to Blood and Loss yesterday and decided to reread a few chapters of the first book. I didn't realize how much I missed the characters. I always thought getting through the first book would be the most difficult, but now I have created these people who have personalities and desires. I have to stay to true to those in the second book. Continuity is key.
I have read many series where a character has done something that I felt he/she would never do. Sometimes something is said about a character in book one that is disregarded to further the plot.
It used to annoy me. How could a writer do that? Now I know sometimes it is a mistake. You can't remember everything even about your own characters, all you can do is have as many as you can read the next book. Others will see things, very obvious things, that you missed. The kind of things where you smack your hand to your forehead and can't believe you didn't see it.
Cassandra is very important to me and I intend to be true to her. There will be many new characters in the next two books (I have already written the next two books in a rough draft) and I can't wait to for you to meet them.
Another little plot twist in the adventure of writing is how hard it is to make a character you love be flawed. How hard it is to make him do something terrible. It is necessary. People are flawed creatures and they screw up. Sometimes their actions hurt those they love. Sometimes even I want two characters to get together, but I know deep down it wouldn't work no matter how much I may want it.
I apologize for my ramblings, but I feel close to my readers. They take the time to let my world into theirs and that is a special thing to do. I appreciate that more than you can know. So anytime you have questions or comments about anything please let me know. I will answer anything you want to know. (except what the next book is about I don't want to spoil it for you ;) ).

The Wait is Almost Over

It is June 1st and that means the start of hotter weather and most importantly the month when True Blood starts its new season. Season 5 seems to be going to take its greatest departure from the books. I personally don't mind the show being different from the books. It still gives me a chance to be surprised by what the season has to offer.

I can't wrap my head around Christopher Meloni playing a vampire. He will play the head of the authority. He does have a very alpha male kind of prescience and that would be needed if he is to play Roman. I will reserve my judgement until I have seen him in action.
What storyline is everyone most excited to see this season? Is Tara dead or alive. The powers that be say she is alive, but if so who saves her from a gunshot to the head? Is it Lafayette and his brujo mojo? Will she become a ghost?
Then there is Eric and Bill and their killing rampage at the end of season four. I can't say I was upset to see Nan go. She was so irritating. She was like a bitchy boss or bossy mother in-law, except she could live forever and tear your head off if she didn't like you. Sorry but that Nan really got under my skin. I can only guess that the authority isn't going to be overly happy about them killing her.
Alcide is the one who finds out about Russel Edgington's rise from the "dead". Will he try to protect Sookie? Will he assume the alpha role of pack leader. Will he look for Debbie Pelt and find out it was Sookie who killed her.
Then there is that weird scene last year when Andy Bellefleur had sex with that fairy woman. What does that have to do with the tea in china. I am not a fan of story lines that take away from my favorite characters. Will he become a fairy baby daddy?
Jessica is a character I thought I would dislike and I like her more and more every season. She is funny and sexy as hell. She is finally coming into her own and enjoying being a vampire. It is nice to see someone enjoy it instead of being all broody about it. So this season she should get even better.
I know Sam is supposed to be a tortured sole, but I hope they give him a little happiness this season. His story line is not one I am dying to see. I am curious about why they have brought in Scott Foley to play Terry Bellefleur's platoon captain.
